Devotion Time Cont.
How to Start
1.Simply just start by picking a book of the Bible that you want to go through first.
There are 66 books to choose from.
They are broken down in 2 main sections (Old Testament (before the Messiah) & New Testament (birth of Messiah till His 2nd return)
Pick one
Going through a book from chaptert 1 to the end is the best way to get the right context of what God is saying. Think about it.
When you read of novel, Do you just open any old page and start? (Confession: if it's an adventure story, I sometimes have caught myself peeking at the end especially the old Choose your Own Adventure books to see who lives and wins HA HA Well, God has given us the end book Revelation so you can peek back there, but start from chapter 1 till 22 just to keep it in context.) It's just a good idea to read an entire book all the way through so you can better grasp it's meaning.
So pick a book.
2. Open up with Prayer and Decluttering your Mind
in the bible of where a scripture spoke to me, I've kept a memory that I can revisit later in life. (It helps me see God's faithfulness even more, when I remember all He's already done for me and how He promises to "Never Leave or Forsake Me" (Hebrews 13:5). Be as creative as you want. I know ladies that have a journal just for prayers and write down dates when they receive the answers. However you do it, enjoy just simply being fed by God's word.
5. I have more thoughts on devotions time. I put them in the blog area. I am working on videos to go along with the writings, but my computer started to act up, so I don't know what is going on with that since I am not a techie person; so we will just have to wait and be thankful we can still read :)

So pick a book.
- EXCEPTIONS Book of Psalms these are a collections of poems, song, and wisdom that you could really just pick one of the 150 and go through them at any time at any rate as you want.
- PROVERBS is a great book with 31 Chapters. Some people have suggested to read one Proverb a day to keep up with the calendar you. (Only for Feb, Apr, June, Sept and Nov only have 30 days, so I guess you can do what you want with that)
2. Open up with Prayer and Decluttering your Mind
- I love it when I exercise and the routine starts with deep breaths in and out 5 times to relax you. Sometimes, I tell my kids before they yell at me with their problems, STOP...BREATH, just to get them to slow down. We need this too. Take a moment just to sit and allow yourself time to calm down.
- Do you ever feel that you are just jumping into devotions just to get it done? I know I have. It's like the TASK TIMER is ticking and Ding, I'm done and out the door. Got that done. OH BOY, SLOW DOWN. Take time with God. I have a friend in my life that is always on the go. Whenever he asks to meet me for coffee, I laugh, "I wonder how long it will last this time," because typically as soon as his coffee is finished, so is our time together. Got to Go, or Got to Go a bit slower.
- Decluttering the Mind: I like to have a piece of paper next to me to write down all the "things" that come in my mind that are pressing for that day. By averting my attention to a list on a paper, I free up some space in my head.
- I ask God to "OPEN my eyes, that I may see Wondrous thing from Your law." (Psalm 119:14) and (Deut. 29:29) "The Lord our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever fora ll theta He has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions."
- I like to say, Read with your heart open. As soon as you read something that you find interesting, I encourage you, write it down the scripture reference down on your paper. Let me explain, the other day I read in the Bible with my little girl. We got to a passage that said "Lydia, seller of purple" (Acts 16:14) We stopped there. WHY? because it meant something to us. HOW? my daughters favorite color just happens to be purple and she loves to make things. So here tucked into the Word is a simple few words, that spoke to my daughter. For her that meant that God cared about her favorite color and it touched her heart. Simple but heart felt.
- Revelation. Revelation of truths can speak in many ways. Simple, deep, profound, enjoyable, educational, eternal truths of God are all here in the Word for your searching out. No matter how simple or complex something is that intrigues you, pay attention. WHY? because that is how you learn of God. God might be preparing you for something in your future that has to do with that particular passage of scripture. (This is where it gets exciting)
- GET YOUR JOURNAL OUT- when you find something that you like, WRITE IT DOWN. This helps to reinforce what it is and leaves you an opportunity to pray through it and develop it more. After I write it down (I don't always write it down but I find that it really does help), I like to write a prayer to the Lord. Whatever the issue thank God for showing you this and ask for His help to see just why that caught your attention that day. (I've read scriptures over and over again and finally one day I awaken to a new insight I never saw before)

- GOD's TIMING. Some times those things that I read about in the morning will be nourishing for that moment and often moments after. It could be later in the day or days to follow that God often brings them to mind. Why? Either for me to learn more about the truths He shared or to SHARE what I've read to someone else. It's awesome to share what we read to help encourage others. Sharing the Word is like sharing a GOOD recipe to me. It is yummy (okay I was thinking about sharing a cup of tea at that moment) and when you pass it on and see people passing it on, there is such an joy when that happens.
