We all know the saying
Stop and Smell the Roses. Totally girly right?
Well, there is a new saying for boys,
Stop and See the Caterpillars.
You haven't heard of it!!! Well let me tell you how it originated.
My family and I were enjoying a bike ride through our cozy neighborhood grounds.
Not too fast and Not too slow.
As we were cruizin around the lush lanes, my son jumps off and throw his bike down to the ground. (you can see his bike top right corner)
What? We almost all crashed into each other.(You can see the girls bike pile up bottom of the picture) You could imagine all our surprise.
My son shouts and yells and runs back at us girls. We stopped and questioned his behavior.
Then he crouches down and yells, "Caterpillars, Caterpillars."
Caterpillars.
So that's what all the fuss is about.
Here he is looking at them. Them? Yes, there were two of them.
You see. At first I didn't understand if he was throwing down his bike because he was upset at the direction daddy wanted us to go or what the reason was. He is a very sensitive boy whose emotions are very large. So when he jumped off I just didn't know what to it was the seems to bother him.
But with sensitive children come huge hearts of gold.
He was nervous that we would run over them so he was really trying to rescue the little creatures.
You can see how sweet he looks as he just watches over them in the picture.
Funny, I think he had more fun with the Caterpillars then the bike ride.
Eventually, we had to say good bye the caterpillars and move on with the ride.
You see that ride taught me a few things.
First, boys have their own way of enjoying life. It wasn't a rose but it sure was a nice thing to do to stop and admire this kind of God's creation.
Secondly, to take time to enjoy things with my son. I got off my bike after snapping the picture and looked at the caterpillars with him. They need to be encouraged and they need to be admonished. Although his reaction was first in question, his plight was right and heroic.
Thirdly, although I thought he was having a fit, I learned first to question him why he is acting that way. I would have completely missed out on his rescue if I just had judged him on his throwing his bike down. (he really wasn't in a good mood that morning, so when he throw the bike down I totally thought it was in frustration) Anyway, It pays to wait just a few moment before reacting to our kids emotions. There might just be something we don't see or understand at that point.
As I learned that afternoon, it was a simple case of
Stop and See the Caterpillars.
I think it's more fitting for boys, don't you think.
Lol
Blessings.
