A Psalm of David.
The LORD is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
Psa 23:2
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
Psa 23:3
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
Psa 23:4
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
Psa 23:5
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Psa 23:6
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwellfn in the house of the LORD
Forever.

My Thoughts
This Psalm is Amazing. I have to say that for me to choose just a verse or two would just not do this Psalm justice. Every verse flows into the next and the entire Psalm is a beautiful picture of how Jesus cares for us in every season of our lives.
A lot of Pastors read this Psalm during memorials to comfort those who have lost loved ones.
Many non-believers are familiar with this passage too. For Christians it's a beautiful reminder of the Loving Care of Our Shepherd.
I believe it's just one of the cherished portions in the Bible that can be enjoyed by everyone.
Anyways, I love it all.
Okay okay, you don't have to twist my arm, I will share a couple of the verses that just make my heart sing.
I love how the NIV translates the first verse.
The Lord is my Shepherd,
I lack nothing.
I like that. I lack nothing.
Why? because the Lord is providing for us all the time. Sometimes it's just the basics: food, clothes, and shelter. Other times it's in abundance. Where ever you find yourself, rejoice that you are being taken care of from God Almighty. Matthew 6 is a beautiful portion of scripture that reinforces this attribute of our Heavenly Father's provision for us.
(Matthew 6:26-34) (so I just had to make sure you reread this one if you haven't lately. lol)
“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?
Mat 6:26
“Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
Mat 6:27
“Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
Mat 6:28
“So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin;
Mat 6:29
“and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Mat 6:30
“Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
Mat 6:31
“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
Mat 6:32
“For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
Mat 6:33
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Mat 6:34
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Can we Give God Thanks for this?
Okay, I hope your heart is overjoyed like mine. I hope you heart is swelling with JOY. I really hope that you are JOYFUL right now. I really really hope you look up to the sky right now and thank God that He is such a Good Shepherd. Amen.
God is so caring, so kind, so watchful, so protectful (so it's not a word but it flowed), so abundant, so willing to help, such servant, so much more than we can think or imagine. Our Shepherd is watching out over us.
Whatever it is you are facing today, let God be God and allow Him the privilege to take care of your ever need. He can and He is ABLE.
Then like the End of Psalm 23
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwellfn in the house of the LORD
Forever
Can you look back on your life and see how mercy and goodness has followed you? I know I can. I want to confess and proclaim,God's mercy and goodness has and is following me all the days of my life. Sometimes we just don't see it at the time, yet eventually we will look back and see they were there all along. Think you ever sinned? Blown up? Made the wrong choice? God's mercy has been with you every morning after. Fantastic isn't it!!!
Finally, we will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.
Amen.
I can't wait. To know that as a child of God, I have a home in heaven is just so freeing. Freeing from getting to grounded on Earth with possessions that just don't last. Our true home in not on Earth, it's eternal in the heavens.
May we live with a light touch on the things of this world, hold tight to our relationships in this world and seek a Better Country: heaven with our loved ones and our Good Shepherd.
Amen.
Thanks Shepherd David for writing this Psalm about our Heavily Shepherd. We will meet you one day.
It's a beautiful things.
Blessings
