A Psalm of David.
The LORD is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the strength of my life;
Of whom shall I be afraid?
Psa 27:2
When the wicked came against me
To eat up my flesh,
My enemies and foes,
They stumbled and fell.
Psa 27:3
Though an army may encamp against me,
My heart shall not fear;
Though war may rise against me,
In this I will be confident.
Psa 27:4
One thing I have desired of the LORD,
That will I seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the LORD
All the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the LORD,
And to inquire in His temple.
Psa 27:5
For in the time of trouble
He shall hide me in His pavilion;
In the secret place of His tabernacle
He shall hide me;
He shall set me high upon a rock.
Psa 27:6
And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me;
Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle;
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.
Psa 27:7
Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice!
Have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
Psa 27:8
When You said, “Seek My face,”
My heart said to You, “Your face, LORD, I will seek.”
Psa 27:9
Do not hide Your face from me;
Do not turn Your servant away in anger;
You have been my help;
Do not leave me nor forsake me,
O God of my salvation.
Psa 27:10
When my father and my mother forsake me,
Then the LORD will take care of me.
Psa 27:11
Teach me Your way, O LORD,
And lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies.
Psa 27:12
Do not deliver me to the will of my adversaries;
For false witnesses have risen against me,
And such as breathe out violence.
Psa 27:13
I would have lost heart, unless I had believed
That I would see the goodness of the LORD
In the land of the living.
Psa 27:14
Wait on the LORD;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the LORD!
The LORD is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the strength of my life;
Of whom shall I be afraid?

My Thoughts
I have such fond memories of this Psalm.
When I was single, one of my good friends and I drove up to Applegate Oregon to surprise another friend of ours. We had so much fun driving the California roads. We listened to music, laughed, and just shared our hearts out during this time. The wonderful thing was that we all loved the Lord and wanted to get to know Jesus deeper. Being up at the church in Applegate with it's lush surroundings inspired us to memorize this Psalm. I remember being in the coffee shop on campus and looking out to the mountains with coffee in hand trying my best to get this Psalm forever lodged in my mind. We did it!!! We actually memorized the entire thing, and we quoted it to each other.
Now, I can't hear or read this Psalm without my mind bringing me to those moments so long ago.
Memorizing Scripture is such a powerful way to keep your mind fresh with scriptures. I do have to admit, I am a bit rusty even on this one because I didn't keep it fresh in my mind. (I have to work on that) However, it's a great mind and heart strengthener just to memorize scripture.
Anyway,
Don't you just love this Psalm? There is so many many nuggets in here that I always fall back on.
I will share them with you.
Verse 1 Because God is my light and strength as a result Fear has no place in my life. (I like that)
Verse 4 That my desire is to live with God forever.Amen!!!
Verse 5 God will hide me in time of trouble. I picture it like a hen covering over her babies in trouble, we are safe and secure in the arms of the Lord.
Verse 10 That when my earthly parents are available to help, God is always there. (My parents divorced when I was only 5 months old, and this verse has been one to comfort me through the painful times)
Verse 13 I need to BELIVE to see the GOODNESS of GOD here on EARTH. So true. So true. I would have lost heart, and sometimes I do loose heart in this world, yet one thing helps me keep going is Believing. Believing that God will show up. Believing that I will see His goodness here in my situation. Believing that He will be faithful to ALL HIS promises. Believing keeps me GOING.
Knowing that God, who is bigger and outside our time, is watching over me has kept me from depression and anguish many times. When I felt myself being to loose heart, I just have to encourage myself that life is so much more then the temporal feelings I am faced with.
Even today, a memory was plaguing me this morning. The more I thought about the subject matter, the more I felt stupid and a looser. The more I thought on those thoughts, the more I grow discontent with my life right here and now. I really was swarming with horribly defeating thoughts. Then, I got into God's Word and reminded myself that no matter my past failures, God is going to show me His goodness here and now. I might have made plenty of mistakes but God's Word says, He makes all things beautiful in His timing. My perspective started to change.
Maybe it wasn't a mistake after all and it was God's way of protecting me from more heartbreak. I don't know and I might never know. I can't go back in the past for the answers because they aren't there. What is here before me is absolute assurance that I will see God's goodness today in my present circumstances. What a God we serve.
Take heart, God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above and beyond what we ask think or imagine. Eph 3:20 Amen.
Verse 14
Wait on the LORD;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the LORD!
See what did I say!!! As we wait on God our hearts will be strengthened. Be of Good Courage. No matter what you've faced, He is able to make beautiful out of ashes. I am thankful for that.
