My Thoughts
First of all this is a Psalm of when David was delivered out of the King Achish, the Philistine king of Gath in 1 Samuel 22-23.
Here is what David did.
(12-14)
And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath.
And he changed his behaviour before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard.
Then said Achish unto his servants, Lo, ye see the man is mad: wherefore then have ye brought him to me?
Here David is pretending to be a mad man to get away from Achish, and by God's grace it worked.
What a relief he felt when Achish kicked him out of his place.
(I Samuel 22:1-2)
David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father's house heard it, they went down thither to him.
And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men
After that David gathered in a cave with all his men and I believe this is were he wrote this Psalm. Just after leaving the enemy he writes:
Oh, magnify the LORD with me,
And let us exalt His name together.
David escaped to the cave with the guys and I can hear him roaring in praise because of this victory.
The more we Magnify God in our lives and together with others, we will be empowered to live this life pleasing to Him. Share your victories with others. I know I am completely encouraged when others tell me what God has done for them. I rejoices my heart.
Another point of this Psalm, think of the word Magnify.
What does it mean to Magnify? To make Bigger, to enlarge, expand, right?
Think of what is magnified in your life.
What is bigger in your eye? Your problems or Your God.
I like to say, Keep God bigger. Focus on Him.
Moving on.
There are so many verses of God's deliverance for David with this chapter. Be encouraged, just as God delivered David, God can deliver you. Here are some of those verses.
(Verse 4)
I sought the LORD, and He heard me,
And delivered me from all my fears.
(Verse 19)
Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
But the LORD delivers him out of them all.
(Verse 22)
The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate
David understood God's deliverance in the presence of his enemies.
