Psa 38:1
A Psalm of David. To bring to remembrance.
O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your wrath,
Nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure!
Psa 38:2
For Your arrows pierce me deeply,
And Your hand presses me down.
Psa 38:3
There is no soundness in my flesh
Because of Your anger,
Nor any health in my bones
Because of my sin.
Psa 38:4
For my iniquities have gone over my head;
Like a heavy burden they are too heavy for me.
Psa 38:5
My wounds are foul and festering
Because of my foolishness.
Psa 38:6
I am troubled, I am bowed down greatly;
I go mourning all the day long.
Psa 38:7
For my loins are full of inflammation,
And there is no soundness in my flesh.
Psa 38:8
I am feeble and severely broken;
I groan because of the turmoil of my heart.
Psa 38:9
Lord, all my desire is before You;
And my sighing is not hidden from You.
Psa 38:10
My heart pants, my strength fails me;
As for the light of my eyes, it also has gone from me.
Psa 38:11
My loved ones and my friends stand aloof from my plague,
And my relatives stand afar off.
Psa 38:12
Those also who seek my life lay snares for me;
Those who seek my hurt speak of destruction,
And plan deception all the day long.
Psa 38:13
But I, like a deaf man, do not hear;
And I am like a mute who does not open his mouth.
Psa 38:14
Thus I am like a man who does not hear,
And in whose mouth is no response.
Psa 38:15
For in You, O LORD, I hope;
You will hear, O Lord my God.
Psa 38:16
For I said, “Hear me, lest they rejoice over me,
Lest, when my foot slips, they exalt themselves against me.”
Psa 38:17
For I am ready to fall,
And my sorrow is continually before me.
Psa 38:18
For I will declare my iniquity;
I will be in anguish over my sin.
Psa 38:19
But my enemies are vigorous, and they are strong;
And those who hate me wrongfully have multiplied.
Psa 38:20
Those also who render evil for good,
They are my adversaries, because I follow what is good.
Psa 38:21
Do not forsake me, O LORD;
O my God, be not far from me!
Psa 38:22
Make haste to help me,
O Lord, my salvation!

My Thoughts
This is a Psalm about David getting an illness because of his sin.
Not only was David being rejected by those around him, his enemies were on hot pursuit for him.
What a crazy moment in his life.
Everything was crashing down on him, and yet he had hope.
Why?
He knew God.
He relied on the mercy of God and assured himself in the hope of the Lord.
I like that.
God is there for you.
There was a time in my life that one of my family members was struggling very hard in life because of his choices. Many of my other family members were tired of the up and downs and relinquished him over to his consequences. He was wrong in what he did and the enemy had a firm grip on him. It reminds me of this Psalm.
But God.
God showed up huge in this situation.
You see ometimes the only one standing by you is God. Sometimes the only one that is willing to go the extra mile is God. (Please understand, I am not saying that we just sin intentionally because we know that God will forgive us, I am saying that God might be the only one you can turn too because you've burnt so many bridges.)
That is what was beginning to happen here. This person was really frustrating those who tried to help him. But it just wasn't the help he really needed. He need a God intervention, and God that's exactly what happened.
God is gracious to discipline us and cleanse and renew us.
No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. Hebrew 12:11
I watched how God intervened in my family members life. I saw how it was God that ultimately woke him up to his behavior and sin. God was loving enough to expose the evil so that healing could begin for him. His consequences were very extreme and painful, yet he's learning how to be a completely different individual.
God is so good. God is so right. God is so able to turn people around. Praise Him.
For me, it's hard to know sometimes just what to do when someone is caught up in sin. Do you let go? Do you go to them? Do you help? What boundaries should you put in place? What boundaries can you bend? Do you know what I mean?
The best answer is PRAY. Every circumstance will look different. Every situation is not the same. Depends on the heart of the individual and if they are ready to receive that kind of help.
For me, my husband was used by God to intervene. It's a total God story of how God showed up at the hour my relative needed Him most. I can't give details, but I can say God showed up. At the moment I was ready to call a hotline for intervention, God sent His intervention by a way of a minister friend. It was a classic God's timing story. Victory.
David chose to hope in God despite what had happened.
He didn't run from God, He ran to God for His mercy.
(Verse 22)
Make haste to help me,
O Lord, my salvation!
I like that.
Bring your sin to God, not away from Him. He's the only one
that can demolish sin. He was crucified to set us free from sin. He casts it away. He forgives and forgets. It's awesome.
If you have a continuing sin that has dominated you, please get help.
Sometimes, just having accountability with someone can strengthen you through.
There are resources out there to help.
