To The Chief Musician. A Psalm of David when Nathan the prophet went to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.
Have mercy upon me, O God,
According to Your lovingkindness;
According to the multitude of Your tender mercies,
Blot out my transgressions.
Psa 51:2
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
And cleanse me from my sin.
Psa 51:3
For I acknowledge my transgressions,
And my sin is always before me.
Psa 51:4
Against You, You only, have I sinned,
And done this evil in Your sight--
That You may be found just when You speak,fn
And blameless when You judge.
Psa 51:5
Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
And in sin my mother conceived me.
Psa 51:6
Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts,
And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.
Psa 51:7
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Psa 51:8
Make me hear joy and gladness,
That the bones You have broken may rejoice.
Psa 51:9
Hide Your face from my sins,
And blot out all my iniquities.
Psa 51:10
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Psa 51:11
Do not cast me away from Your presence,
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
Psa 51:12
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.
Psa 51:13
Then I will teach transgressors Your ways,
And sinners shall be converted to You.
Psa 51:14
Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God,
The God of my salvation,
And my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness.
Psa 51:15
O Lord, open my lips,
And my mouth shall show forth Your praise.
Psa 51:16
For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it;
You do not delight in burnt offering.
Psa 51:17
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit,
A broken and a contrite heart--
These, O God, You will not despise.
Psa 51:18
Do good in Your good pleasure to Zion;
Build the walls of Jerusalem.
Psa 51:19
Then You shall be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness,
With burnt offering and whole burnt offering;
Then they shall offer bulls on Your altar.
Have mercy upon me, O God,
According to Your lovingkindness;
According to the multitude of Your tender mercies,
Blot out my transgressions.
Psa 51:2
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
And cleanse me from my sin.

Your Thoughts
1.Looking over this Psalm, was there a particular verse that you liked?
Read that verse over again.
It could even be a phrase.
No matter if it's one verse, one phrase, or one single word, Stop and think
about it for just a minute.
2. Why do you think you like it?
Have you been experiencing something in your life that resonated with this verse?
Possibly, Right?
3. That's the Word speaking to you. Maybe write it down. Turn it into a prayer and/or praise.
4. Pray and Thank God for this revelation and ask Him to make it clear how He wants to use it in your life.
5. Share what God spoke to you with someone. Let others be blessed too.

My Thoughts
I think of Jeremy Camps song He Knows.
You know this Psalm was written at one of David's lowest moments. He committed adultery with Bathsheba. When she told him she was pregnant, he tried to covered it up by having her husband killed in battle. The result: the child died.
What a painful chain of events.
"Oh what a web we weave when we first practice to deceive."
Have you been through a storm because of some sinful choices yo have made?
Oh the repercussions can be excruciating.
Yet David didn't let that be the end of himself.
He cast himself upon the Mercies of the Lord
(Verse 1)
Have mercy upon me, O God,
According to Your lovingkindness;
According to the multitude of Your tender mercies,
Blot out my transgressions.
Sometimes that is all we can do. To try to justify our sins would be a mockery. We just need to lift up our voices to the Lord for His mercies.
I know in my life, I have had to do this almost daily. There is just something about being in a season of feeling defeated and overwhelmed. I've been overly frustrated and too emotional in life. I am so thankful that God's mercies are "new every morning." Lam 3:23
If that is you,
Take a moment to confess these things to the Lord. Get a renewed mind and heart today.
(Verse 2)
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
And cleanse me from my sin.
I love the fact that God doesn't just forgive us; He cleanses us. Look at a similar verse in John.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us oursins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9.
God is the only one who can cleanse us. We can't cleanse ourselves from sin; only God.
Keep a light touch on sin. Be quick to confess and receive forgiveness.
David thought he got away with His sin. It wasn't until after Bathsheba had her baby that Nathan confronted David about His sin.
You see we can keep things inside but God's perfect light shines deep within our hearts. I like this next verse.
Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts,
And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.
Truth on the inward parts. This verse has changed my life. It's told me to be honest with how I am feeling and not trying to cover anything up on the inside. For example: we are called to love people. So instead of trying to love someone hard to love and be fake about it, I acknowledge to God: I can't.
I have many times said to God, "God you know inside I don't like that person (or situation or feelings, whatever it is that isn't in accordance with God's will) yet I desire to love them like you love them. Help me Lord. Give me your love for them."
Why? because that is being honest with God. He desires that we tell him the truth about our hearts, feelings, and issues. I used to think I couldn't do that, but OH how freeing it is to be honest.
He knows anyway.
David continues to ask God for a few things in this Psalm: Mercy on me, Blot out, Wash me, Purge me, Make me hear, Purge me, Create in me, Restore to me, Deliver me, Open my lips.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
Deliver me from guilt
Open my lips to praise.
I like how these three things end the verse. God restores, takes away our sin, and we thank Him in praise. David was crushed but he desired to be brought back into a right relationship with God. We wanted to sing again. He want to praise again. He was broken. He was undone. Yet He longed to be in harmony with God again.
Make me hear joy and gladness,
That the bones You have broken may rejoice.
The broken bones may rejoice.
When God forgives us and we are set free from our sin and guilt, it's a joyous thing.
You might say, How can someone rejoice after what they've did? God.
God restores and puts a new song in their heart.
Those who truly know repentance, forgiveness, and restoration can Rejoice.
It's true.
Don't let the enemy keep you downcast. Praise God for the Cross.
Ps 103
As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
Trust me. We carry scars. I am sure David never forgot what he did, but God was there loving him all the while.
What amazes me in all of this, is that Solomon was born to David and Bathsheba. Solomon was the greatest heir of David before Christ. Talk about God's mercy.
God didn't have to allow Bathsheba anymore kids and especially not one that was Kings. To think that Queen Bathsheba was by Solomon's side in his reign is a remarkable ending to this story.
Is there a sin or issue that has left you broken?
Commit all the pieces of it to the Lord and watch how He reconfigures and rebuilds those areas in your life.
I am waiting for somethings to be rebuilt in my own life. I have entrusted these things to the Lord and am praising Him, for His ability to "work all things together for my good."Romans 8:28
Go ahead Trust God in this.
IF you have confessed to God, Forgive yourself because God has forgiven you.
So here is my charge to you today:
Hebrews 12:1
Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith,
Amen.
Let God, Let it Go and Let God finish what He has planned for you.
