To the Chief Musician. With stringed instruments.fn A Contemplationfn of David.
Give ear to my prayer, O God,
And do not hide Yourself from my supplication.
Psa 55:2
Attend to me, and hear me;
I am restless in my complaint, and moan noisily,
Psa 55:3
Because of the voice of the enemy,
Because of the oppression of the wicked;
For they bring down trouble upon me,
And in wrath they hate me.
Psa 55:4
My heart is severely pained within me,
And the terrors of death have fallen upon me.
Psa 55:5
Fearfulness and trembling have come upon me,
And horror has overwhelmed me.
Psa 55:6
So I said, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove!
I would fly away and be at rest.
Psa 55:7
Indeed, I would wander far off,
And remain in the wilderness. Selah
Psa 55:8
I would hasten my escape
From the windy storm and tempest.”
Psa 55:9
Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues,
For I have seen violence and strife in the city.
Psa 55:10
Day and night they go around it on its walls;
Iniquity and trouble are also in the midst of it.
Psa 55:11
Destruction is in its midst;
Oppression and deceit do not depart from its streets.
Psa 55:12
For it is not an enemy who reproaches me;
Then I could bear it.
Nor is it one who hates me who has exalted himself against me;
Then I could hide from him.
Psa 55:13
But it was you, a man my equal,
My companion and my acquaintance.
Psa 55:14
We took sweet counsel together,
And walked to the house of God in the throng.
Psa 55:15
Let death seize them;
Let them go down alive into hell,
For wickedness is in their dwellings and among them.
Psa 55:16
As for me, I will call upon God,
And the LORD shall save me.
Psa 55:17
Evening and morning and at noon
I will pray, and cry aloud,
And He shall hear my voice.
Psa 55:18
He has redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that wasagainst me,
For there were many against me.
Psa 55:19
God will hear, and afflict them,
Even He who abides from of old. Selah
Because they do not change,
Therefore they do not fear God.
Psa 55:20
He has put forth his hands against those who were at peace with him;
He has broken his covenant.
Psa 55:21
The words of his mouth were smoother than butter,
But war was in his heart;
His words were softer than oil,
Yet they were drawn swords.
Psa 55:22
Cast your burden on the LORD,
And He shall sustain you;
He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.
Psa 55:23
But You, O God, shall bring them down to the pit of destruction;
Bloodthirsty and deceitful men shall not live out half their days;
But I will trust in You.
Give ear to my prayer, O God,
And do not hide Yourself from my supplication.

My Thoughts
Here David's friend betrayed him and he was hurt deeply about this.
Being betrayed by a friend is such a horrible experience.
Jesus understands. He was betrayed by Judas. Think of that. Betrayed unto death.
It's one thing to be betrayed by a person that isn't close to you; its another to be betrayed by friends and or family.
Recently, my daughter had a bit of this. Friend of the neighborhood who came all summer long to play have now made it a game to tease her. Yesterday, they destroyed a walkway that she tirelessly made. She was crushed.
Here for David he was not only betrayed by a friend he helped through many years but also his son Absalom; it crushed him. (verse 12)
For it is not an enemy who reproaches me;
Then I could bear it.
Nor is it one who hates me who has exalted himself against me;
Then I could hide from him.
But it was you, a man my equal,
My companion and my acquaintance
The best thing we can do in these situations is commit them to the Lord.
Literally, pray to God for His wisdom in how to handle it. Then ask Him
to help heal your heart. Dissolution can set in very fast, if you don't talk to
God about your situation. Invite God to help.
(verse 16-17)
As for me, I will call upon God,
And the LORD shall save me.
Evening and morning and at noon
I will pray, and cry aloud,
And He shall hear my voice.
Why did David cry aloud so much?
He was deeply hurt and vexed inside.
I find in times of great distress, we pray more frequently through the day.
If things are heavy on your heart, pray. Don't ever think that God is tired of hearing you,
He isn't. Keep praying.
God sometimes is the only one that can bring you ultimate comfort in a situation. Sometimes those who try to help us really are just not understanding. That's okay. We don't have to explain it to anyone but God. He really knows best.
Then after crying out to God, commit the situation.
Relinquish it. Let it Go. Try your best not to keep holding on to the pain.
Here's what David did.
(Verse 22)
Cast your burden on the LORD,
And He shall sustain you;
He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.
You stand in the strength of God. Hide under His wings and rest.
God will work on your behalf.
Keep yourself in the Love of the Lord and watch Him do things you could
have never done for yourself. He is faithful. He cares.
Blessings.
