Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me!
For my soul trusts in You;
And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge,
Until these calamities have passed by.

I will cry out to God Most High,
To God who performs all things for me.

He shall send from heaven and save me;
He reproaches the one who would swallow me up. Selah

My soul is among lions;
I lie among the sons of men
Who are set on fire,
Whose teeth are spears and arrows,
And their tongue a sharp sword.

Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
Let Your glory be above all the earth.
Psa 57:6
They have prepared a net for my steps;
My soul is bowed down;
They have dug a pit before me;
Into the midst of it they themselves have fallen. Selah
Psa 57:7
My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast;
I will sing and give praise.
Psa 57:8
Awake, my glory!
Awake, lute and harp!
I will awaken the dawn.
Psa 57:9
I will praise You, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing to You among the nations.

For Your mercy reaches unto the heavens,
And Your truth unto the clouds.
Psa 57:11
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
Let Your glory be above all the earth
Your Thoughts
Read that verse over again.
It could even be a phrase.
No matter if it's one verse, one phrase, or one single word, Stop and think

My Thoughts
Verse (10)
Sometimes mercy can be translated lovingkindness in the Old Testament. I like that either Mercy or the lovingkindness of the Lord is what we rely on to hold us together.
So here in the Psalm, David wrote this when he was fleeing from Saul again.
He always cried out to the Lord and plead for His Grace and Mercy.
(Verse 1)
Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me!
For my soul trusts in You;
And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge,
Until these calamities have passed by.
I love how this says Until these calamities have passed. Until they have passed. Do we give up a little too short? Do we push through to the end? God talks about being "faithful to the end." When we are in a long trial, it is easy to faint and get overwhelmed by the intensity, however, let's take David's advice and make the Lord our refuge until the calamities have passed.
I think of the next Presidential election coming in 2016, and boy it feels like a lot of calamity is brewing. Yet, I am going to rest in the shelter of God's divine plan until we see what befalls. Ultimately, He is in control.
(verse 2)
I will cry out to God Most High,
To God who performs all things for me.
I like this verse. It focus' on the character of God: God Most High. Sometimes we need to be reminded of who we really are crying out to. So many other religions cry out to empty things, deaf statues, and dead gods. Yet who do we have eagerly waiting and listening to us, ready to heal, ready to save, well, God Most High. Not only is He listening, He is performing. God is working behind the scenes. Arranging circumstances and situations all in accordance to His plans and purposes that He established ages ago. It's like a needlepoint project, the back is all a mess, but the front is very particular. We see on part (the mess) if you will and all the while God is perfectly weaving it perfectly. David knew this aspect of God, and relied on what God was working out or completing for him. God will complete the work in you.
(Philippians 1:6)
being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;
Since we know God is being faithful to the end, let's stay faithful till the end.
(Verse 7)
My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast;
I will sing and give praise.
Just like David, sing and give praise to the Lord even in the midst of a trial or calamity. It can really help get your mind on the right things to think about in those times.
God will have the victory. God will succeed.
Trust in the Lord. Trust Him through the darkest night. Trust Him for He will surely come to save.
(Verse 10-11)
For Your mercy reaches unto the heavens,
And Your truth unto the clouds.
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
Let Your glory be above all the earth
The Truth is that God is so far above our problems in life. He is so able to do exceedingly abundantly above and beyond what we think. Trust Him.
Today, I know I have a few areas of concern that I am praying about. Oh, how I long to see how God is going to answer. How He is going to complete this part of my journey.
I want to see Him work these out for He does Good things.
Until then, I am going to nestle myself under His wings of protection and mercy, and wait to see what He will so.
Hide yourself in the strength of the Lord today.
How? Ask God to cover you and then keep remind yourself you are in His arms.
Sing to Him. Talk to Him. Feel His presence around and upon you Today.
In His presence is fullness of Joy.
Blessings.
