To the Chief Musician. Set to “Do Not Destroy.”fn A Michtam of David when Saul sent men, and they watched the house in order to kill him.
Deliver me from my enemies, O my God;
Defend me from those who rise up against me.
Psa 59:2
Deliver me from the workers of iniquity,
And save me from bloodthirsty men.
Psa 59:3
For look, they lie in wait for my life;
The mighty gather against me,
Not for my transgression nor for my sin, O LORD.
Psa 59:4
They run and prepare themselves through no fault of mine.
Awake to help me, and behold!
Psa 59:5
You therefore, O LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel,
Awake to punish all the nations;
Do not be merciful to any wicked transgressors. Selah
Psa 59:6
At evening they return,
They growl like a dog,
And go all around the city.
Psa 59:7
Indeed, they belch with their mouth;
Swords are in their lips;
For they say, “Who hears?”
Psa 59:8
But You, O LORD, shall laugh at them;
You shall have all the nations in derision.
Psa 59:9
I will wait for You, O You his Strength;fn
For God is my defense.
Psa 59:10
My God of mercyfn shall come to meet me;
God shall let me see my desire on my enemies.
Psa 59:11
Do not slay them, lest my people forget;
Scatter them by Your power,
And bring them down,
O Lord our shield.
Psa 59:12
For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips,
Let them even be taken in their pride,
And for the cursing and lying which they speak.
Psa 59:13
Consume them in wrath, consume them,
That they may not be;
And let them know that God rules in Jacob
To the ends of the earth. Selah
Psa 59:14
And at evening they return,
They growl like a dog,
And go all around the city.
Psa 59:15
They wander up and down for food,
And howlfn if they are not satisfied.
Psa 59:16
But I will sing of Your power;
Yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning;
For You have been my defense
And refuge in the day of my trouble.
Psa 59:17
To You, O my Strength, I will sing praises;
For God is my defense,
My God of mercy.
Deliver me from my enemies, O my God;
Defend me from those who rise up against me.

Your Thoughts
1.Looking over this Psalm, was there a particular verse that you liked?
Read that verse over again.
It could even be a phrase.
No matter if it's one verse, one phrase, or one single word, Stop and think
about it for just a minute.
2. Why do you think you like it?
Have you been experiencing something in your life that resonated with this verse?
Possibly, Right?
3. That's the Word speaking to you. Maybe write it down. Turn it into a prayer and/or praise.
4. Pray and Thank God for this revelation and ask Him to make it clear how He wants to use it in your life.
5. Share what God spoke to you with someone. Let others be blessed too.

My Thoughts
Again, I wish we could hear what these Psalm sounded like back in the day.
Here David is writing about when Saul sent men to try to kill him. It still boggles my mind that David's father in law went to such great lengths to destroy him, and yet God always protected David. From the many nights out in the wilderness running for his life, to escaping the sword in his own's father in laws house, to his own home, David was on the run. Running from evil and running to God for help.
David knew where to go?
Where do you run in trouble? Where do you go when life is hard?
Look what David did (verse 9)
I will wait for You, O You his Strength;fn
For God is my defense.
He waited for God. He know God would defend him and be his strength.
I think that is great advise: wait on the Lord. Look to God to help. Cry out to Him and let Him defend for you.
David again had such confidence in God's saving strength.
(verse 10)
My God of mercy shall come to meet me;
God shall let me see my desire on my enemies.
Eventually, God will judge the Earth. He will separate the evil from the righteous and will make right of all the wrong. You might be in a situation that seem unfair and you might not understand it at all, but God does. Trust Him to guide you through. Trust Him to defend for you for God will come and meet you in your situation. He is here. Call on Him.
I think these next verses are interesting when speaking about the way the enemy prowl around the city.
(Verse 6 and 14)
And at evening they return,
They growl like a dog,
And go all around the city.
David likes them to a growling dog. They are never satisfied. Walking with hardness and evil intentions. Crazy.
But I really like that though the wicked are growling, David is singing.
But I will sing of Your power;
Yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning;
For You have been my defense
And refuge in the day of my trouble.
Such a difference between growling around in anger verses sing to God in thankfulness.
Am I going around growling and being all bent out of shape about things? Do I let things bother me to the point that I am acting like dog?
I have to admit sometimes, I have. How embarrassing it has been when I act like that? It's like I've forgotten all the good things the Lord has done. I get caught up in the things I don't like and then my heart leans toward depressing and doubts and really a downcast attitude.
But I tell you, when the morning comes, I am ready to sing aloud of God's mercies.
I just love the morning time.
It's like a fresh slate, a blank page, a new beginning.
Let's sing aloud of His mercy. He is our defense. He will come to save.
Keep looking up. Keep your heart guarded and stay trusting in Him.
He is the Victory we all need.
