To the Chief Musician. Set to “Lily of the Testimony.”fn A Michtam of David. For teaching. When he fought against Mesopotamia and Syria of Zobah, and Joab returned and killed twelve thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt.
O God, You have cast us off;
You have broken us down;
You have been displeased;
Oh, restore us again!
Psa 60:2
You have made the earth tremble;
You have broken it;
Heal its breaches, for it is shaking.
Psa 60:3
You have shown Your people hard things;
You have made us drink the wine of confusion.
Psa 60:4
You have given a banner to those who fear You,
That it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah
Psa 60:5
That Your beloved may be delivered,
Save with Your right hand, and hear me.
Psa 60:6
God has spoken in His holiness:
“I will rejoice;
I will divide Shechem
And measure out the Valley of Succoth.
Psa 60:7
Gilead is Mine, and Manasseh is Mine;
Ephraim also is the helmet for My head;
Judah is My lawgiver.
Psa 60:8
Moab is My washpot;
Over Edom I will cast My shoe;
Philistia, shout in triumph because of Me.”
Psa 60:9
Who will bring me to the strong city?
Who will lead me to Edom?
Psa 60:10
Is it not You, O God, who cast us off?
And You, O God, who did not go out with our armies?
Psa 60:11
Give us help from trouble,
For the help of man is useless.
Psa 60:12
Through God we will do valiantly,
For it is He who shall tread down our enemies.fn

My Thoughts
This is the last of the Mitchem of David
I would to hear what this sounded like set to the "Lily of the Testimony"
(verse 1)
O God, You have cast us off;
You have broken us down;
You have been displeased;
Oh, restore us again!
At first when I read this Psalm, it was a bit hard to pick out anything that I really liked until the end. Yet, I reread it and found something that touched me.
This was a time that David was in hardship. The people were going through a very difficult thing and it had seemed that God was allowing this calamity. Yet, David calls out in despair and says "Restore us again."
I love it. I love that David had enough understanding the trials and affliction that come his way. Has hard as it was, He knew God's mercy was greater than the calamities. He always relied on God's love and mercy. You know that's how we should be too. No matter what we are facing, call upon the Mercy of God to help get you through.
Keep your heart in a place that is tender and sensitive to the Lord.
In that you can rest that God is watching over you.
(verse 5)
That Your beloved may be delivered,
Save with Your right hand, and hear me.
I cry this prayer all the time, save me and hear me. We know that God does listen, He is taking notes on what we say. How beautiful that we have such an involved God that cares about what we are concerned with. Praise the Lord, He hears.
Another thing that I love hear is the David calls himself to God "Your Beloved". I like that too. David was reminding God of who he was to God. David knew that he was God's Beloved and that is how he approached God's throne. So are we. Do you know that you are God's Beloved? Do you know that? If you are born again, you are His Beloved.
Remind God in your difficult time, "Lord I am your Beloved and I know that you are hear to protect me and guide me and save me." That's faith in the Living God. Do you believe it?
(Verse 11)
Give us help from trouble,
For the help of man is useless.
The help of man is useless. I had to laugh. David was a man acquainted with war and warrior and he knew that compared to God man's help was useless. Sometimes, I find that so true. Man have good intentions to help sometimes, but the real source of help comes from God. People can try to help but sometimes it does feel useless.
I remember when my Grandpa died on 2013, I was sitting in the room where his body was trying to process his death. I remember listening to the radio and listening to what the hosts were saying about him. Here one host was saying "Praise the Lord, he is in heaven, blah blah blah" and we was sort of happy in his tone. Here I was looking at my gramps body going, slow down buddy that isn't helping me right now. It wasn't a time of rejoicing for those of us who just lost our dear grandpa, it was a time of grieving and my heart was very heavy. Of course I was thankful he went to heaven, but I was no were happy that he had just passed. Thankfully, a pastor got on the air and said, "well, let's not forget their is a time to grieve here". I listened to that guy. He was more comforting in that moment than the other by far.
Sometimes men try to help us, sometimes they are well meaning, but sometimes it just feels useless. What we really need is to hear from the Lord. Like David, "give us help from trouble". God truly is the one that can bring true help.
(verse 12)
Through God we will do valiantly,
For it is He who shall tread down our enemies
Praise the Lord. He will do it for us.
God will tread down the enemies. He will do it. Have faith.
May we remind ourself that we our God's beloved and God is over us to help and protect.
Rely on Him with all your heart.
Blessings.
