To the Chief Musician. On a stringed instrument.fn A Psalm of David.
Hear my cry, O God;
Attend to my prayer.
Psa 61:2
From the end of the earth I will cry to You,
When my heart is overwhelmed;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
Psa 61:3
For You have been a shelter for me,
A strong tower from the enemy.
Psa 61:4
I will abide in Your tabernacle forever;
I will trust in the shelter of Your wings. Selah
Psa 61:5
For You, O God, have heard my vows;
You have given me the heritage of those who fear Your name.
Psa 61:6
You will prolong the king’s life,
His years as many generations.
Psa 61:7
He shall abide before God forever.
Oh, prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him!
Psa 61:8
So I will sing praise to Your name forever,
That I may daily perform my vows.
Hear my cry, O God;
Attend to my prayer.
Psa 61:2
From the end of the earth I will cry to You,
When my heart is overwhelmed;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
Psa 61:3
For You have been a shelter for me,
A strong tower from the enemy.
Psa 61:4
I will abide in Your tabernacle forever;
I will trust in the shelter of Your wings. Selah
Psa 61:5
For You, O God, have heard my vows;

My Thoughts
Last few Psalms, we saw the Michtams of David. Here is the start of new group of Psalms.
This is David's prayer and cry out to the Lord. I like that he wrote it for a stringed instrument. I love playing the guitar and this encourages me to try to write a song. Yet I grew up with a song already.
The is a Song: Hear my prayer
It's such a refreshing song. I love it.
Verse 1-2
Hear my cry, O God;
Attend to my prayer.
From the end of the earth I will cry to You,
When my heart is overwhelmed;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
I love these verses. Have you ever cried out to God when your heart was overwhelmed? I know I have. I actually started this morning praying like this. My heart was going through a moment that I needed to trust Him for a decision, and I awoke with a heavy and overwhelmed heart.
What do we need in that that time? Something Greater than us. Jesus.
Here David said lead me to the rock that is higher. I am so Glad Jesus is the Rock that we can go to. He is so far above the circumstances and situations. He knows all things. He sees all things in perfect timing. This is where I want to rest. Resting in His wisdom, His knowledge, His provision. He knows all things.
When we pray, we are reaching the Ears of the Heavenlies and we should expect to get Heaven's heart here on Earth. That's what I want, the heart of Heaven.
A few different things that David reminds himself of what God has already done.
Verse 3
a shelter for me,
A strong tower from the enemy.
Verse 5
have heard my vows;
You have given me the heritage of those who fear Your name.
It's a good thing to remind yourself of what God has already done for you as an encouragement to face your situation.
What has God already done for you? Take a moment and think of those things. How did God guide you, provide for you, speak to you last time? He is going to do something because He doesn't stop working on the behalf of His children. He is doing something at this very moment for you.
Verse 4
David confirms to himself what he needs to do
I will abide in Your tabernacle forever;
I will trust in the shelter of Your wings. Selah
Now David is declaring that he will stay close to the Lord and trust Him. No better place to be than in the presence of the Lord trusting in Him.
In doing this David has a positive outlook for what is to come.
Verse 6-7
You will prolong the king’s life,
His years as many generations.
He shall abide before God forever.
Oh, prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him!
Here is David's confidence in what God had already promised him. We too have the precious promises of God to hold on to. No matter what happens in this life, we have heaven to come. This is just a temporal journey. We will abide with God forever. Knowing this helps to make this life a little less well hummm, how do I say this, we can have a lighter hold on this place.
I am so thankful we have a better future then our time here on Earth.
What is the key from having a heart overwhelmed to having faith in God?
Praise Him.
Verse 8
So I will sing praise to Your name forever,
That I may daily perform my vows.
Turn on that worship music and turn out the noise in your mind and heart that is driving you crazy. In the presence of God there is fullness of Joy.
Get into the presence through praise today and watch the problem unfold before you.
God is working. Praise Him in advance for what He already has in mind to do for you today.
Praise will strengthen you to perform what the promises tell us too.
Amen.
Blessings.
