Psa 68:1
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. A Song.
Let God arise,
Let His enemies be scattered;
Let those also who hate Him flee before Him.
Psa 68:2
As smoke is driven away,
So drive them away;
As wax melts before the fire,
So let the wicked perish at the presence of God.
Psa 68:3
But let the righteous be glad;
Let them rejoice before God;
Yes, let them rejoice exceedingly.
Psa 68:4
Sing to God, sing praises to His name;
Extol Him who rides on the clouds,fn
By His name YAH,
And rejoice before Him.
Psa 68:5
A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows,
Is God in His holy habitation.
Psa 68:6
God sets the solitary in families;
He brings out those who are bound into prosperity;
But the rebellious dwell in a dry land.
Psa 68:7
O God, when You went out before Your people,
When You marched through the wilderness, Selah
Psa 68:8
The earth shook;
The heavens also dropped rain at the presence of God;
Sinai itself was moved at the presence of God, the God of Israel.
Psa 68:9
You, O God, sent a plentiful rain,
Whereby You confirmed Your inheritance,
When it was weary.
Psa 68:10
Your congregation dwelt in it;
You, O God, provided from Your goodness for the poor.
Psa 68:11
The Lord gave the word;
Great was the company of those who proclaimed it:
Psa 68:12
“Kings of armies flee, they flee,
And she who remains at home divides the spoil.
Psa 68:13
Though you lie down among the sheepfolds,
You will be like the wings of a dove covered with silver,
And her feathers with yellow gold.”
Psa 68:14
When the Almighty scattered kings in it,
It was white as snow in Zalmon.
Psa 68:15
A mountain of God is the mountain of Bashan;
A mountain of many peaks is the mountain of Bashan.
Psa 68:16
Why do you fume with envy, you mountains of many peaks?
This is the mountain which God desires to dwell in;
Yes, the LORD will dwell in it forever.
Psa 68:17
The chariots of God are twenty thousand,
Even thousands of thousands;
The Lord is among them as in Sinai, in the Holy Place.
Psa 68:18
You have ascended on high,
You have led captivity captive;
You have received gifts among men,
Even from the rebellious,
That the LORD God might dwell there.
Psa 68:19
Blessed be the Lord,
Who daily loads us with benefits,
The God of our salvation! Selah
Psa 68:20
Our God is the God of salvation;
And to GOD the Lord belong escapes from death.
Psa 68:21
But God will wound the head of His enemies,
The hairy scalp of the one who still goes on in his trespasses.
Psa 68:22
The Lord said, “I will bring back from Bashan,
I will bring them back from the depths of the sea,
Psa 68:23
That your foot may crush themfn in blood,
And the tongues of your dogs may have their portion from your enemies.”
Psa 68:24
They have seen Your procession, O God,
The procession of my God, my King, into the sanctuary.
Psa 68:25
The singers went before, the players on instruments followedafter;
Among them were the maidens playing timbrels.
Psa 68:26
Bless God in the congregations,
The Lord, from the fountain of Israel.
Psa 68:27
There is little Benjamin, their leader,
The princes of Judah and their company,
The princes of Zebulun and the princes of Naphtali.
Psa 68:28
Your God has commandedfn your strength;
Strengthen, O God, what You have done for us.
Psa 68:29
Because of Your temple at Jerusalem,
Kings will bring presents to You.
Psa 68:30
Rebuke the beasts of the reeds,
The herd of bulls with the calves of the peoples,
Till everyone submits himself with pieces of silver.
Scatter the peoples who delight in war.
Psa 68:31
Envoys will come out of Egypt;
Ethiopia will quickly stretch out her hands to God.
Psa 68:32
Sing to God, you kingdoms of the earth;
Oh, sing praises to the Lord, Selah
Psa 68:33
To Him who rides on the heaven of heavens, which were of old!
Indeed, He sends out His voice, a mighty voice.
Psa 68:34
Ascribe strength to God;
His excellence is over Israel,
And His strength is in the clouds.
Psa 68:35
O God, You are more awesome than Your holy places.
The God of Israel is He who gives strength and power to Hispeople.
Blessed be God!

My Thoughts
To be honest, this Psalm was hard for me to plow through. Somethings stood out to me, while others I felt more like a mystery. However, in it all it has the theme of God triumph over the Earth. I love to look forward to what God has prepared for us and this Psalm has a nice way of pointing up upward.
Verse 1
Let God arise,
Let His enemies be scattered;
Let those also who hate Him flee before Him.
There was a song of this Psalm that I used to sing in my youthful days. I just loved worship back then and I am amazed how many songs we sang that were written right from the Word of God. How inspiring. Let me try to find that Psalm on youtube. Just one second.
Well, I couldn't find the song I used to sing, yet I found Chris Tomlin's Version. Click Here!
Get ready to jump up and down. LOL
God will Arise and His enemies will be scattered. PTL. Think of that. Think of that all day. Think of that everyday. Hooray. There is a shout of victory here.
So where does this concept come from, back with Moses and the wilderness experience.
Look at Numbers 10:34-35
And the cloud of the LORD was above them by day when they went out from the camp.
So it was, whenever the ark set out, that Moses said:
“Rise up, O LORD!
Let Your enemies be scattered,
And let those who hate You flee before You.”
Whenever the people were to move to a different place this is what they would say. How fitting. Can you see them walking forward and all their enemies of the surrounding lands just fleeing from them?
I kind of think this would be could to start the day with this saying, "Let God arise and let His enemies be scattered". Just as you are leaving your home as you step out on the door step, or as you pull out of the drive way, say "Rise up O LORD and Let your enemies by scattered!" Wow!
What victory we could face just by inviting God to go before us that day. I like that.
You know I do pray every time I leave the house. I think it just shields me from harm and keeps me acknowledging Christ through my day. I just say a little pray out loud for my kids to hear, and we all agree together for God's protection that day. You might give it a try. Moses did. LOL
Psa 68:3
But let the righteous be glad;
Let them rejoice before God;
Yes, let them rejoice exceedingly.
Do you know God wants you to be glad? He does. God is the happiest being ever and He wants you to partake of His Joy. How can we find this Joy? One way is through worship. Have you ever experienced the difference in your heart when you turn on praise music and worship God? I have. Worship can really enlighten your heart.
Be Glad today. Rejoice exceedingly. Now that is an adverb that speaks to me. Exceeding Exceeding. Yes, Exceeding. It means in Hebrew to be very joyful. Not just a little, A lot.
Ps 68:5
A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows,
Is God in His holy habitation
Don't you love this? God is a father to those who don't have one. He defends for the widow. Here in a culture where those two situations were looked negatively upon, God was there standing up for them.
God truly looks upon the fatherless and widows with favor, and it's our responsibility to look after them too. Over and over it talks about this matter.
James 1:27 says this
Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
So if you want to do some act of religion that God considers pure, well there's a list of things we can do.
Verse 7
O God, when You went out before Your people,
When You marched through the wilderness, Selah
Can you believe God marched with them? The God of the universe marched in the wilderness. They were never alone, and neither are we.
From Verse 7-17
There is a lot of the acts of God and the response of the Earth. You can read and choose those things that minister about it. I just love that the Earth has to respond to the Lord, no matter what it is: parting seas, sending rain, moving mountain, or stopping lions. Just think, this God that Earth yields to is marching with us everyday.
Ps 18
You have ascended on high,
You have led captivity captive;
You have received gifts among men,
Even from the rebellious,
That the LORD God might dwell there.
Does this verse sound familiar?
Yes Ephesians 4:8-10 quotes it:
“When He ascended on high,
He led captivity captive,
And gave gifts to men.”fn
(Now this, “He ascended”—what does it mean but that He also firstfn descended into the lower parts of the earth?He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.)
It's talking about Jesus. Here in the OT (Old Testament) it was a prophetic verse about what Jesus would do after his crucifixion. Then it was referenced in the NT (New Testament) to the church of Ephesians as a fulfillment of these things.
God's Word is so powerful and consistent.
Psa 68:19
Blessed be the Lord,
Who daily loads us with benefits,
The God of our salvation! Selah
I love this verse. God daily loads us. He daily provides for us (Matthew 6). He does so much for us it's amazing.
I love presents, yes I mean presents. I think one of my "love languages" is gifts. I love to give them and I love to receive them. God is that way too. He loves to lavish us with all kinds of things. How can we give a gift back to Him: love Him and love others. Worship Him, and give Him your life.
Look for the blessing of God today.
Comment below and let me know what blessing you received from God today.
Ps 68:21-23
But God will wound the head of His enemies,
The hairy scalp of the one who still goes on in his trespasses.
Here is one benefit, God will destroy Satan. (J. Vernon Mcgee)Right now Satan is bruised but one day he will be utterly destroyed. PTL.
Verse 24-31
Here they are talking about watching the congregation going up to worship the Lord.
One of the things I loved about Good Friday Service when my grandpa held it at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater was watching the crowds of people wind up the hilly areas to get to the center. Just watching all these people walking together for one purpose, to worship the Lord. It was so moving to me. I think this is what David or anyone watching the Israel go up to the sanctuary might have experienced.
Verse 32-34
Sing to God, you kingdoms of the earth;
Oh, sing praises to the Lord, Selah
To Him who rides on the heaven of heavens, which were of old!
Indeed, He sends out His voice, a mighty voice.
Ascribe strength to God;
His excellence is over Israel,
And His strength is in the clouds.
Two verbs here that caught my attention are Sing and Ascribe. We have the ability to do these things unto the Lord. Singing and Ascribing. Worship we all do regularly, but what about Ascribing. Ascribing means bestowing on to the Lord. I love it. It's like us just acknowledging God's greatness over all things.
Finally, we made it to the last verse.
Verse 35
O God, You are more awesome than Your holy places.
The God of Israel is He who gives strength and power to Hispeople.
Blessed be God!
I like this. God is more awesome then their holy places.
So often we can get caught up in the building and places but what we should be in awe about is our God over all.
God is able to give strength and power to His people.
How awesome is that!
Do you need strength today or power? He is there to give it to you today?
It's all there for the asking.
Blessed be God.
Be blessed today to know that the God of the universe is here with us today. No matter where we are or what we are facing, He knows and He is there.
This was a long one, hope you enjoyed it.
