Save me, O God!
For the waters have come up to my neck.
Psa 69:2
I sink in deep mire,
Where there is no standing;
I have come into deep waters,
Where the floods overflow me.
Psa 69:3
I am weary with my crying;
My throat is dry;
My eyes fail while I wait for my God.
Psa 69:4
Those who hate me without a cause
Are more than the hairs of my head;
They are mighty who would destroy me,
Being my enemies wrongfully;
Though I have stolen nothing,
I still must restore it.
Psa 69:5
O God, You know my foolishness;
And my sins are not hidden from You.
Psa 69:6
Let not those who wait for You, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed because of me;
Let not those who seek You be confounded because of me, O God of Israel.
Psa 69:7
Because for Your sake I have borne reproach;
Shame has covered my face.
Psa 69:8
I have become a stranger to my brothers,
And an alien to my mother’s children;
Psa 69:9
Because zeal for Your house has eaten me up,
And the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me.
Psa 69:10
When I wept and chastened my soul with fasting,
That became my reproach.
Psa 69:11
I also made sackcloth my garment;
I became a byword to them.
Psa 69:12
Those who sit in the gate speak against me,
And I am the song of the drunkards.
Psa 69:13
But as for me, my prayer is to You,
O LORD, in the acceptable time;
O God, in the multitude of Your mercy,
Hear me in the truth of Your salvation.
Psa 69:14
Deliver me out of the mire,
And let me not sink;
Let me be delivered from those who hate me,
And out of the deep waters.
Psa 69:15
Let not the floodwater overflow me,
Nor let the deep swallow me up;
And let not the pit shut its mouth on me.
Psa 69:16
Hear me, O LORD, for Your lovingkindness is good;
Turn to me according to the multitude of Your tender mercies.
Psa 69:17
And do not hide Your face from Your servant,
For I am in trouble;
Hear me speedily.
Psa 69:18
Draw near to my soul, and redeem it;
Deliver me because of my enemies.
Psa 69:19
You know my reproach, my shame, and my dishonor;
My adversaries are all before You.
Psa 69:20
Reproach has broken my heart,
And I am full of heaviness;
I looked for someone to take pity, but there was none;
And for comforters, but I found none.
Psa 69:21
They also gave me gall for my food,
And for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
Psa 69:22
Let their table become a snare before them,
And their well-being a trap.
Psa 69:23
Let their eyes be darkened, so that they do not see;
And make their loins shake continually.
Psa 69:24
Pour out Your indignation upon them,
And let Your wrathful anger take hold of them.
Psa 69:25
Let their dwelling place be desolate;
Let no one live in their tents.
Psa 69:26
For they persecute the ones You have struck,
And talk of the grief of those You have wounded.
Psa 69:27
Add iniquity to their iniquity,
And let them not come into Your righteousness.
Psa 69:28
Let them be blotted out of the book of the living,
And not be written with the righteous.
Psa 69:29
But I am poor and sorrowful;
Let Your salvation, O God, set me up on high.
Psa 69:30
I will praise the name of God with a song,
And will magnify Him with thanksgiving.
Psa 69:31
This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bull,
Which has horns and hooves.
Psa 69:32
The humble shall see this and be glad;
And you who seek God, your hearts shall live.
Psa 69:33
For the LORD hears the poor,
And does not despise His prisoners.
Psa 69:34
Let heaven and earth praise Him,
The seas and everything that moves in them.
Psa 69:35
For God will save Zion
And build the cities of Judah,
That they may dwell there and possess it.
Psa 69:36
Also, the descendants of His servants shall inherit it,
And those who love His name shall dwell in it.
Your Thoughts
Read that verse over again.
It could even be a phrase.
No matter if it's one verse, one phrase, or one single word, Stop and think
about it for just a minute.
2. Why do you think you like it?
Have you been experiencing something in your life that resonated with this verse?
Possibly, Right?
3. That's the Word speaking to you. Maybe write it down. Turn it into a prayer and/or praise.
4. Pray and Thank God for this revelation and ask Him to make it clear how He wants to use it in your life.
5. Share what God spoke to you with someone. Let others be blessed too.
My Thoughts
Jesus' love for us is unexplainable, it's not able to be comprehend, it's heavenly, it's divine.
I am so thankful to be loved by the maker of all things. To be cherished by the God that controls everything. Are you?
I was so filled with gratitude after reading this Psalm of God's great love for me. It is amazing.
For years I struggled with feeling rejected, unaccepted, and an outsider. It was very painful. But one thing gave me hope, I was a child of God. God experienced the same trails we did, so not only was I His child but He understood because He'd already gone through it first. Talk about rejection from family, friends, and community. Christ endured it all so that you might know, He Knows.
If you are in need of Hope today, remember the Cross. Remember the Cross. Remember He conquered the cross for you.
King and Country sing a moving song called, It's not over yet. Take a moment to listen to it.
Apparently, this is one of the most quoted Psalm that the New Testament references. (J.Vernon McGee)
I hope you enjoyed that song as much as I do.
Moving along
Verse 9
Because zeal for Your house has eaten me up,
And the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me.
This verse is a prophetic and Messianic Psalm of Jesus.
For one, Remember when Jesus went into the temple and said
in John 2:16
"And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise."
The disciples remembered this verse.
Look here in John 2:17
"And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up."
I just love the Word of God for it's prophetic elements. Who could imagine watching the Word of God come a live through Christ? Well, the disciples. They saw it in living color. Thankfully, we have the Word of God in black and white and although we didn't witnesses it first hand, we can be thankful that we can read the accounts and gleam from them.
Here Jesus was so upset about the religious people making the congregation a business. Wow, I wonder what He thinks of some churches today. I wish to God they would all be back into being houses of prayer.
Verse 13
But as for me, my prayer is to You,
O LORD, in the acceptable time;
O God, in the multitude of Your mercy,
Hear me in the truth of Your salvation.
In the Psalms, there is such a personal connection with God. "My prayer is to You." He knew he could just talk to God and that God was listening to him, as if he was the only one in the room. You know God gives us that special audience as His children.
In looking at the life of Jesus, he also modeled that intimate connection with God Father. Time and time again we see Jesus leaving the disciples and multitude to just go and pray.
What an example. NO matter what kind of situation Jesus was in, He prayed.
Verse 16
Hear me, O LORD, for Your lovingkindness is good;
Turn to me according to the multitude of Your tender mercies.
I like this. I like reminding myself of God's mercies. The scripture say that His mercies are new every morning. I really like that.
Seeing the life of Christ, it appears that he went through so much sorrow and suffering on Earth. Even in His childhood as we look at the Psalm was filled with sorrow and tears. That is way, I love how He reminds Himself that God is listening.
Sometimes if might feel like you are alone in this world, but never fret, you are never alone. God is the only One that will ever be by your side day and night. Run to the Lord. Pour out your heart before Him, He loves you.
Verses 20-21
Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.
They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
Here the Cross is represented. Remember when Jesus was hanging on the cross and the soldiers gave him a sip?
John 19:29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.
Again we have this Messianic element here in this Psalm written thousands of years before Christ. It's amazing.
But when you read this Psalm, you realized Jesus had a broken heart. Can you believe that? Jesus had a broken heart. Why? Because He took on all of our sin and sickness and He had to bear the reproach that we could never bear.
But through it all, He continues to rejoice and give thanks.
Verse 30
I will praise the name of God with a song,
And will magnify Him with thanksgiving.
I've told my husband that I would love to make a CD just with Psalms of Thanksgiving. There is something so powerful to have a heart of Gratitude. It takes the not so beautiful side of life and makes something precious with it.
One way to really encourage yourself is with the Names of God. There are so many wonderful meanings that it just causes you to be in Awe of God. The names of God are so powerful because you realize no matter what situation you are in, He is there. Provide, Peace, Healer, Comforter, Shepherd, I Am. Whatever you need in your life, He is there.
Psa 69:31
This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bull,
Which has horns and hooves.
The sacrifice of Jesus please God. Why? because He was VICTORIOUS. No bull or ox or dove could ever wipe out the law of sin. No amount of our human sacrifices could ever atone for our sin. Only Jesus being perfect and blameless could be the final atonement for us.
Thank you Jesus for bearing all that you did and bearing with us and loving us unconditionally.
Verse 33.
For the LORD hears the poor,
And does not despise His prisoners.
Did you hear that? The Lord hears. His hears are open to your prayers. You have an audience with the King, no matter your income or position in life. He is listening.
Psa 69:34
Let heaven and earth praise Him,
The seas and everything that moves in them.
I love this. Anytime the Word talks about creation, I get excited.
To think the the creation has to obey God is amazing.
The Bible says in Romans 8:22-23
For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
I've always found that fascinating, even creation awaits to be renewed.
Because of what Jesus did in dying and raising on the cross, we will be saved.
God is going to come back and restore His Kingdom here on Earth.
He will reign forever.
All creation and humanity will operate in perfect harmony.
There will be no sorrow sickness or sin.
Amen!!!
Do you long for that day? I know I do. I just can't wait.
Today if you are struggling in life, remember the Cross. Remember Jesus understands everything perfectly and He is here to help you through.
Try to think of things you are thankful for in this time, and remember there is a better country just around the corner. Total Bliss.
You are loved. God hears you. Keep the Faith. Be Faithful to the End.
It's totally worth it.
