God stands in the congregation of the mighty;
He judges among the gods.[fn]

And show partiality to the wicked? Selah
Psa 82:3

Do justice to the afflicted and needy.
Psa 82:4
Deliver the poor and needy;
Free them from the hand of the wicked.
Psa 82:5
They do not know, nor do they understand;
They walk about in darkness;
All the foundations of the earth are unstable.
Psa 82:6
I said, “You are gods,[fn]
And all of you are children of the Most High.
Psa 82:7
But you shall die like men,
And fall like one of the princes.”
Psa 82:8
Arise, O God, judge the earth;
For You shall inherit all nations.

Your Thoughts
I encourage you to take 1 verse that you like and write it down and turn it into a prayer.
My Thoughts
Psalm 82 is a psalm that talks a lot about Judging.
Vs1 God is ultimate Judge
Yet people go around like "gods" judging people. The little "gods" here is translated judges.
Why? I like what J Vernon said it's because anyone who is sitting in judgment of others is really acting in the place of God. That is why it is so important that we don't judge others incorrectly.
The Bible says "Don't judge a matter before it is time"
Matthew 7:1-2 says, "Judge not lest you be Judged.For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you."
Its an important place to be a judge and to take a position that is reserved for God Himself.
Ps 7:11 States
God is a just judge,
And God is angry with the wicked every day.
You can be sure God will judge righteously and truthfully.
But here the people who were judging weren't doing that at all.
vs 2 The judges where unjust and showing favoritism to the wicked.
Doesn't that seem like today?
I have been involved in a lawsuit for a couple of years now. I couldn't believe how difficult it was to prove to our judge that we were in fact the ones doing the right thing. Every time we would present our side it was met with hesitance and resistance. It frustrated me that it seemed that the wicked would prevail. Praise God we had a bit of a break through or else I would have been completely discouraged.
Once again, we find in the Word that human judgment is bias sometimes.
One day it won't be. God is the true judge and His judgement is right and pure.
Verse 3-4
The judges were to be judging for the fatherless and the poor the afflicted and the needy. It reminds me of the verse in James that states Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
That is how we are suppose to live. We are suppose to be reaching out to those in need.
Lord help us see the need and meet it.
Verse 6 has been used out of context by some cults. So be careful.
I said, “You are gods,[fn]
And all of you are children of the Most High
Jesus quoted from this verse in John 10 when He was being challenged when HE said
I and My Father are one.
Right there Jesus was declaring that He was God.
The religious leaders were horrified and wanted to stone Him.
John 10:33
The Jews answered Him, saying, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God.”
This is what separates Jesus from all others: He is God.
The Jews knew what He was saying and they rejected it.
Then Jesus quotes from Ps 82 to remind them that they were sitting in Judgement of Jesus making them out to be "gods" or judges.
Jesus wasn't saying we are God but that in judgment we are acting like little gods running around trying to be like God. Yet look what their judgement lead too: death of Christ.
We as created beings will NEVER achieve to be a God. There are some cults that teach that so be careful.
God is a spirit that has never been created and never been destroyed. So in that definition alone, there is no way for a created being to be God.
Our judgment isn't has God is. His is pure. His is true. His is right. God is the only one who can see into a person's heart and know every motive, every thought, and every way and be completely just in what is verdict is.
Verse 7
But you shall die like men,
And fall like one of the princes.
Then He reveals their mortality. Again. They aren't God but go around acting like they are god. The sad things is they don't do as He wants and they die just like everyone else.
Verse 8
Arise, O God, judge the earth;
For You shall inherit all nations.
One day God will judge the Earth guaranteed.
There is a judgment day coming.
It will take place after the millennial reign on earth.
Where will you find yourself?
Will you find yourself on the sides of the goats? Where you never cared to make Jesus your Lord and Savior? Will your reward for sin be Hell?
It is up to you.
Will you find yourself on the side of the sheep? Where you have surrendered your life and soul to Jesus and allowed Him to cleanse and forgive you of your sin? Will your rewards be that have gold, and white robes and all things wonderful? Heaven? Eternal Life with Christ?
You choose.
I found that 3 different times in scripture it states that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is God. (Is 45:23,Rom 14:11,Phil 2:11)
Why wait till it's too late?
If you confess Him as Lord on the Earth, He will confess to God you are His child in heaven.
What a beautiful thing that it!!!
