A Song. A Psalm of Asaph.
Do not keep silent, O God!
Do not hold Your peace,
And do not be still, O God!
Psa 83:2
For behold, Your enemies make a tumult;
And those who hate You have lifted up their head.
Psa 83:3
They have taken crafty counsel against Your people,
And consulted together against Your sheltered ones.
Psa 83:4
They have said, “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation,
That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.”
Psa 83:5
For they have consulted together with one consent;
They form a confederacy against You:
Psa 83:6
The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites;
Moab and the Hagrites;
Psa 83:7
Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek;
Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;
Psa 83:8
Assyria also has joined with them;
They have helped the children of Lot. Selah
Psa 83:9
Deal with them as with Midian,
As with Sisera,
As with Jabin at the Brook Kishon,
Psa 83:10
Who perished at En Dor,
Who became as refuse on the earth.
Psa 83:11
Make their nobles like Oreb and like Zeeb,
Yes, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,
Psa 83:12
Who said, “Let us take for ourselves
The pastures of God for a possession.”
Psa 83:13
O my God, make them like the whirling dust,
Like the chaff before the wind!
Psa 83:14
As the fire burns the woods,
And as the flame sets the mountains on fire,
Psa 83:15
So pursue them with Your tempest,
And frighten them with Your storm.
Psa 83:16
Fill their faces with shame,
That they may seek Your name, O LORD.
Psa 83:17
Let them be confounded and dismayed forever;
Yes, let them be put to shame and perish,
Psa 83:18
That they may know that You, whose name alone is the LORD,
Are the Most High over all the earth.
Do not keep silent, O God!
Do not hold Your peace,
And do not be still, O God!

Your Thoughts
Take a moment to pick out something that speaks to you in this Psalm.
Take time to think about it.
Take time to pray to the Lord and commune with Him on it.
I believe there is something here that He wants to speak to you on.

My Thoughts
Reading over this Psalm, I couldn't help think of the coming time where God will put all nations to silence. It hasn't happened yet, but it is forth coming.
All you have to do is read Revelation to understand that God is coming to wipe out all unrighteousness and wickedness from the Earth.
If you are a child of God this should excite you, but for those who have not Christ it's a daunting reality. We need to pray for those who are lost and share with them the Gospel. Perhaps you will be the vessel that God works through to see a life become born again.
verse 3 Sheltered ones.
I like this. Call me sheltered all you want, esp if it's about being sheltered by the Lord. I don't know of any greater place to find such peace and containment and comfort and love. Can you?
I often struggle with anxieties that try to make me fearful. At the height of my issue, God showed me a scripture that I've held on too for a long time. Ps 5:12
For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous;
With favor You will surround him as with a shield
For me the visual is that God's shield is literally surrounding me wherever I go, no matter where I am, or who I am speaking with. His Shield is shielding me.
Call that sheltering of the best kind.
Vs 4-8
Spiritual Warfare.
There are those who hate God. They hate His people and want to see them wiped off the face of the Earth.
Even in late and current history people of God have been persecuted and martyred for their beliefs. It seems here in the media there is becoming more and more intolerance for the Christian perspective. I really believe that one day people will blame Christians for the ruin in society. We've become as the bible say, "evil is good and good is evil." What a crazy thing to think that it is happening here currently in the United States.
It was no different back in Bible times. Here the Psalmists turns to God and asks that God wipe them off instead. I like that. It's like a little brother asking His big brother to go confront his friends. There is somethings to freeing and encouraging to know that God is with us wherever we go. God fights for His people and will protect us from the wiles of the enemy.
Eph 6 tells us to put on the armor of God and then stand in it. Stand strong in the Lord and the power of His might. He is here for us to conquer over all things that oppress us.
Remember vengeance belongs to the Lord and God will repay. We don't have to do it, God will do it for us. (Joshua 10)
vs 5
For they have consulted together with one consent;
They form a confederacy against You
Doesn't that sound like today. I believe we already have groups in high powers that are consulting against God and His people today. We must be on guard and aware but not fearful. Just like God was will Joshua so He will be with us.
vs 9-17
The Psalmist is recounting history of how God dealt with people before. I think that was a pretty wise thing to do. When we are confronted with things that seem overwhelming before us, we should look to our own history of how God has delivered us and His people before. God hasn't stopped working on behalf of those who trust in Him. History is full of God's interventions on man's behalf. Remind yourself of what God has done. Then go forward and remind yourself of what He is going to do. Then be at peace that He is the in midsts of you and He is working all things for your good. He is amazing.
You can read of the history accounts here for:
Midian: Numbers 31:7-8 (Balamm was killed with them)
Judges 7:22-25
Sisera: Judges 4:15-24 (The woman Jael struck him down)
Jabin at Kishon : Judges 4:23; 5:21
Oreb and Zeeb: Judges 7:25 (Prince of Midian killed by Gideon)
Zebah and Zalmunn Judges 8:12-21
vs15 So pursue them with Your tempest,
And frighten them with Your storm.
The Psalmist knows the power of God and His ability to use creation for His purposes. Just read Revelation to see how God will use His creative power to judge the Earth. God is holy and righteous and worthy to be praise. All His ways are truth and just.
Vs 18
That they may know that You, whose name alone is the LORD,
Are the Most High over all the earth.
Interestingly at the Psalmist wants the enemies to be destroyed that they may know who God really is like. Once we die, everyone will be faced with the reality that Christ is the reality. "Every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord."
When you enter eternity and are face to face with God, no matter what you believed here on Earth, you will be completely transformed in the reality of Truth and Christ. Everyone will understand and know that God alone is Lord of All. Amazing.
Hopefully, the nations will be aware of God's presence here on Earth before it's too late.
Do you know that God alone is Lord?
Have you surrendered your life to Him?
He made you and formed you and He alone can free you from a life of sin. It's is God alone that can forgive you, redeem you and give you a crown of life in heaven.
Trust in Him today. He is Most High over all.
Blessings.
